IDEC AND EUDEC 2011
What follows is a slightly edited version of an announcement by the organisers.
In 2011 the annual IDEC (International Democratic Education Conference) will
be held in the UK, and combined with the biannual EUDEC (European
Democratic Education Community) conference. It will be held from the 5th to the
14th July at The River Dart Country Park, in Devon. It is being organised by a
group of staff and students from Sands School, Ashburton, with support from
EUDEC.
The park is a beautiful site with all the facilities needed for a democratic
education conference including woodland, adventure playgrounds, a swimming
pool, and a bar and restaurant. There are six conference rooms in the main house
and there will also be a marquee and other large tents for workshops.
There is a campsite with toilet and shower blocks and participants at the
conference will have the use of a huge walled garden and meadow where they
can pitch their own tents. There will also be some dormitory style tents (at a
small extra cost). The main house has a limited number of luxury bedrooms
which will be rented out to conference delegates. As well as these
accommodation options there will be links to local bed and breakfasts, hotels and
holiday cottages.
IDECs and EUDEC conferences are open to students of any age as well as staff,
and the River Dart Country Park will appeal to delegates of all ages. It is a fiveminute
drive from Sands School which will be open to visitors. ‘Registration will start very soon,’ writes Chloe Duff, the principal organiser,
‘and there will be a substantial reduction for people booking early so keep a look
out for the launch of the website and the start of registration. Fees will be
announced as soon as possible.’
